28 Weeks

How Big is the Baby?
This week, she weighs as much as a big ol’ cabbage!
She’s up to almost three pounds now, and measures over a foot – close to 15 inches! I can definitely feel he is getting longer – mostly in my ribcage where he is kicking and pushing. Compared to other pregnant ladies I’ve seen, it seems like I’m carrying really low – don’t you think? I find myself with my hand under my stomach a lot, supporting it more and more as it gets later in the day. I’ve gotten a lot of comments from strangers about how small I am…I can’t even express how happy I feel when I hear this. Gaining 29 pounds and hearing that I’m small is simply amazing.

She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She’s also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.” (Source)

The one not-so-exciting part of this past week is that I have developed constant heartburn. That’s because “during pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus. This hormone also relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach, allowing gastric acids to seep back up.” (Source). Awesome. I can’t link the heartburn back to any food in particular – so I think it’s just a nasty side effect of pregnancy.

How far along? 28 Weeks
Total weight gain: 29 lbs
Maternity clothes? A few new Pea in the Pod items I found on sale at Macy’s
Stretch marks? Nothing new here
Sleep: Still sleeping great
Best moment this week: Officially rolling into the third trimester - I can't express how excited I am to meet my sweet baby girl.  Also, my dentist telling me my teeth/gums look perfect.  He was surprised because a lot of pregnant women have issues with their teeth/gums during pregnancy.
Miss Anything? Being physically fit, just walking up the stairs at work gets me winded.
Movement: All the time, it’s amazing.  Derek feels her constantly now and gets excited with every kick, it’s adorable.
Food cravings: I may or may not have eaten an entire bag of twizzlers this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick: ew I can't even type meat without gagging just a little (sorry hubby, no meat for dinner any time soon)
Gender: Girl :)

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: Still lots of heartburn, but I can hardly complain about that. My pelvic, hip, back pain is basically gone with week…knock on wood.
Belly Button in or out? Can't decide, but it sure is funny looking
Wedding rings on or off? On and off depending on the day
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy…Although the random mood swings are happening a bit more frequently. I would say I’m a lot more emotional too.  I cried while watching 16 and pregnant.
Looking forward to: Getting the nursery complete and putting away the clothes ect. Sometimes I feel as if I've been pregnant forever... but right now I'm thinking where has the time gone?! Side note: What I’m not looking forward to is my 2 hour glucose test this Saturday at 7AM!!! Fingers crossed I will pass.

27 Weeks - Third Trimester!

But first… Happy third trimester to Baby Amundson! Everyone counts trimesters differently, but my sources say that the third tri starts at 27 weeks, so I’m going with it. So excited to be in the third trimester.
Here’s what 27 week-old babies are up to: “Baby’s lungs and immune system are maturing this week as baby prepares for his grand entrance. If he were born today he would have an 85 percent chance of surviving as his lungs are capable of breathing air (with medical assistance, of course). Other exciting developments: Baby’s done a lot of growing over the past few months. Her length has more than doubled in the past 15 weeks! And that’s not the only thing growing—baby’s brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. Her brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby. If baby is a he, his testes will have completely descended at this point. Your baby now weighs in at approximately 14½ inches and just over 2 pounds.” (Source) Grow, baby, grow!

How far along? 27 Weeks
Total weight gain: 27 lbs+ I think, I need to weight myself again. I’m a little scared at the number  I might see.
Maternity clothes? Ordered a couple tops from the Gap that were half off. I hope they fit!

Stretch marks? No changes
Sleep: Still sleeping great, sometimes I sleep so deep that I don't even wake up to pee! woohoo!!

Best moment this week: Spin class yesterday, it was the best workout that I’ve had in forever!

Miss Anything? Can’t think of anything I miss.  There has been some moments at work in the past week that make me want to stop by the store and pick up a bottle of wine to drink to myself.
Movement: All the time, still trying to figure out what big lumps are her head or her bum! :) I think she might have flipped because I feel kicks/jabs in my ribs now.

Food cravings: Still everything sweet! This week's lineup consisted of scones, cookies, muffins, milk duds, graham crackers with biscoff spread....which are dangerously addicting! I need to calm down, sure hope I pass my diabetes test.

Anything making you queasy or sick: I haven’t been able to eat much meat.  I don’t mind it as much if I don't have to cook or touch the raw meat.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: Heartburn all day every day... tums helps & so does milk. Other than that, I still get hip pain and some minor back pain.
Belly Button in or out? Flat as a pancake
Wedding rings on or off? On most of the time but some days my fingers are too swollen.
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY!
Looking forward to: Memorial Day and a three day weekend!  We are heading out of town to see Jack White play in Eastern WA.  Easter WA is much warmer, I’m looking forward to some sunshine.

This is how I wear my hair when I'm lazy and don't want to get out of bed in the mornig. :)

26 Weeks...3 more months to go!

Week 26 – very exciting. Only one week to go until the third trimester!
Here’s what Baby Amundson is up to this week: “The network of nerves in your baby’s ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. She may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner’s as you chat with each other. She’s inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she’s born and takes that first gulp of air. And she’s continuing to put on baby fat. She now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches from head to heel. If you’re having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.” (Source)

I had a little scare this week when I thought I was having contractions.  They felt like heavy menstrual cramps and scared the hell out of me. I called my Dr. and the nurse said I was most likely dehydrated and to drink a lot of water and relax. Well, I knew I wasn’t dehydrated because I drink water non-stop all day long.  About an hour later I called the Dr. back and insisted that I wanted to be seen…yes I was that pregnant lady.  I had no idea they would be doing an ultrasound to check my cervix, which was a nice surprise.  Everything looked GREAT.  Turns out that my contractions were braxton hicks.  The ultrasound tech surprised me with a 3D view of my baby girl, she look beautiful.  It brought tears to my eyes. She printed a picture for me to take home which was a bit frightening.  Her nose looked nothing like I saw in person, it was HUGE.  My husband took one look at the picture and asked what was wrong with her nose.  This of course made me panic thinking something was wrong with her nose. I used my friend Google and it’s discovered that 3D ultrasounds make your baby’s nose look distorted.  I’m sure she will have a perfect button nose.

 How far along? 26 Weeks
Total weight gain: 26 lbs+
Maternity clothes? Nothing new, just trying to squeeze into everything I have

Stretch marks? No changes
Sleep: Sleeping great, I do wake up with sore hips & shoulders from sleeping on my side

Best moment this week: My husband coming home from Alaska, he was only gone a few nights but I missed him like crazy. We aren’t the type of couple that needs time away from each other.
Miss Anything? A good solid run or a sweaty workout, I’m still working out but I struggle to make it through a workout most nights. Looking forward to getting in shape in the winter. :)
Movement: All the time, we are so entertained feeling her move around when we lay on the couch at night. Food cravings: Pancakes, cookie, sweets.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Meat in general.  It’s not making me sick but I just have no interest.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: No – just Braxton hicks

Symptoms: Pelvic pain is getting pretty uncomfortable these days.. Assuming that is only going to get way worse. Heartburn lingers ALL day long no matter what I eat... cereal & milk for breakfast? Boom! Heartburn. Fantastic.
Belly Button in or out? flat as a pancake
Wedding rings on or off? on - so surprised I don't have swollen fingers/toes yet. Although I have some real sausages to begin with, so I'm not sure how much worse they can get.
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY! Sometimes I feel like I might burst with happiness...sounds cheesy... but so true.
Looking forward to: As sad as this is, I’m looking forward to my husband making a dump run this weekend.  We have so much crap in our house that needs to go to make room for the baby.

25 weeks and my results....finally!

After 10 LONG business days and two full weeks I finally got the call from my genetic counselor yesterday.  The first thing she said was, ‘good news, the test was negative’.  This scare has put a lot into prospective for me.  I would really love to volunteer and learn more about down syndrome. Thank you Josey for sharing this blog with me, http://www.kellehampton.com/2010/01/nella-cordelia-birth-story.html, which is a beautiful story.

Baby A is now 13.5 inches long and weighs about a pound and half. And she has HAIR. I am dying to know the hair color. Vocal cords are forming. Air sacs are developing in the lungs. And Baby has established regular sleeping and playing cycles, which I can anticipate. She wakes up in the morning, at lunch, and right before bedtime.  She wasn’t happy this morning when I woke up at 2AM to drive my hubby to the airport.  She was kicking me in the bladder the entire way.

The kicks come hard and fast all day long now. I can see my belly moving from the outside, too, which is a brand-new development.

I just have to say I love my job. I work with some amazing people who generously have given a lot of baby stuff and saved Derek and I $$.

How far along? 25 Weeks
Total weight gain: 25 lbs
Maternity clothes? No new purchases.  My maternity top that I got at 12 weeks is now borderline tight.
Stretch marks? Possibly, but nothing super noticeable
Sleep: Still sleeping great

Best moment this week: Getting the call from my genetic counselor that my Materniti21 test was negative. Also, just feeling overly excited/happy about everything right now & the reality that baby girl will be here in less than 100 days (unless I deliver way late..) Just trying to soak it all in!

Miss Anything? Can’t think of anything I miss right now, just loving being pregnant.
Movement:
all the time, it's fun to see her moving from the outside
Food cravings: I was on a poptart kick this last week which is horrible. I need to keep that crap out of the house.  I love breakfast type foods and crave those the most….pancakes, egg sandwiches, potatoes ect.
Anything making you queasy or sick: I tried eating pizza for the first time in forever and I’m still not feeling it.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: Round ligament pain, but worst of all - HEARTBURN. I get it a few times a day from anything I eat. If the old wives tales are true, little girl will be born with as much hair as I currently have right now.
Belly Button in or out? flat as a pancake
Wedding rings on or off? On most of the time.
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY! I think now that I have my results I can finally relax.  All this stress I’ve been going through probably wasn’t the best for the baby.

Looking forward to: We got the nursery all cleared out and the crib is waiting to be put together.  It finally feels like we might be going somewhere with the room.

One of the strangest aspects of pregnancy has been how much my body has changed but how little I notice the different on a day-to-day basis. I guess the growth happens so slowly that I haven’t really noticed it… until I look at the belly shots, of course.

24 weeks

Well, according to Thebump.com, baby is still as big as a papaya and nothing new to report until week 25. But, according to babycenter.com,

Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn’t much more than an average rutabaga, but she’s beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she’ll start to look more and more like a newborn. She’s also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you’d now be able to discern its color and texture.

How far along? 24 Weeks
Total weight gain: almost 24 lbs! WHOA MAMA. That would equal one pound per week I’ve been pregnant.
Maternity clothes? Nothing new this week but I’m feeling comfy.

Stretch marks? I hate to say it but I think I might be getting a few very light marks. I’m strangely okay with it.
Sleep: Still sleeping great
Best moment this week: Hearing at my 24 week appointment that everything is still looking good & going smoothly! I need to hear that. I’m STILL waiting on my blood test results although the Dr. is not concerned one bit. I think I’m annoying him a bit with my worries.  Also, I had two people tell me that I’m the cutest pregnant lady ever…bless their hearts! lol

Miss Anything? Being able to eat more than a few bites without feeling sick.
Movement: More & more each day! I LOVE it! Derek got to feel her kick for the first time on Monday.
Food cravings: Poptarts! This is a terrible craving and I need to stop.  Also, scones….real healthy!
Anything making you queasy or sick: I got sick last night after eating BBQ pulled pork at a restaurant. It felt worse than my first trimester morning sickness.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: Round ligament pain, & a hefty case of swollen ankles.
Belly Button in or out? In-ish
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY
Looking forward to: The crib will be here tomorrow! So excited to see it in the room!
