19 Weeks

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby’s skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature (thebump.com).
Also,
Your baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid (babycenter.com).

How far along? 19.5 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 13+ lbs gained so far (I think) ;-)
Maternity clothes? Still rocking the same clothes, I need to go shopping ASAP though.
Stretch marks? No - let's hope the Burt’s bees cream I bought works!
Sleep: Sleep is great, especially naps on our new couch!
Best moment this week: realizing that I am almost halfway there.. BOOM! I’m really enjoying being pregnant (I say that now anyways), so I’m hoping the next half is just as great.
Miss Anything? Candy! I gave up candy for lent and I’m dying for some cinnamon bears.
Movement: so much movement this week! It’s such a trip to feel the baby moving around.  It makes me smile every time.
Food cravings: Continue to crave sweets along with Taco Time which I could literally eat for every meal.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nada.
Have you started to show yet: Yup!
Gender: CAN’T WAIT TO FIND OUT! I had a dream it was a girl last night.  She had blue eyes and light hair.
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: My 20 Week ultrasound coming up!  Then I can finally get started on the nursery.
I really need to remember for Derek to take belly shots!

New Couch and recliner...I will be spending much time here soon....

18 Weeks

Your fetushas become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccupping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby’s finally big enough that you’ll be able to feel those movements soon (thebump.com)
Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He’s busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you’ll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they’re still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he’s born. If you’re having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you’re having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound (babycenter.com).

How far along? 18 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 12lbs gained – I try to stay far away from the scale these days

Maternity clothes? I really need new dress pants for work. The maternity slacks I bought 2 months ago are now feeling snug. I still fit into my maternity Seven Jeans.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Still sleeping great - minus the frequent trips to the bathroom and the bizarre dreams
Best moment this week: Having a co-worker tell me that I don’t look pregnant from behind.
Miss Anything? Coke Zero! I caved on St. Patty’s day and had half a glass. Other than that, I’ve stayed away from artificial sweeteners since I found out I was pregnant.
Movement: Lots of movement! I notice it most when I’m at work after breakfast but it’s constant movement all day long. Last night it felt like the baby was dancing inside me.
Food cravings: Sweets! I never thought I would say I was craving sweets after being sick the first 12 weeks. I stopped by Whole Foods last night to pick out a special cookie. I’ve also been digging grapes.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nada.
Have you started to show yet: Oh yes, no hiding the belly now. I often wonder if strangers think I have a gut or if they know I’m pregnant.
Gender: Still up in the air. In the past week I had two people guess BOY! That was weird to hear since everyone else has guessed girl.
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: My 20 week ultrasound! :) Also, Derek and I are going to co-ed baby shower this weekend for our friend. I’m excited to see all of the goods she gets….I love baby showers!

17 Weeks

Here’s what Amundson is up to this week. “Your baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now, and she’s around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.” (Source) I’ve also read that her ears are formed enough so that she can hear our voices and Roxie’s excessive barking. Get used to it, baby.

How far along? 17 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 10 pounds gained
Maternity clothes? Lots of maternity clothes now! I have such good friends that passed on some amazing stuff to me.  My friend gave me about 10 Pea in the Pod dresses…those go for $200+ each usually.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: I’ve been falling asleep on the couch around 9PM and Derek wakes me up at 1AM to go to bed…then I wake up for work at 5AM.  I think this is making me extra tired in the morning.  I need to just try to go to bed at 9PM.
Best moment this week: Feeling lots of movement every day! My sister gave me her Doppler so we get to hear the baby’s heartbeat whenever we want.
Miss Anything? Not missing much, just enjoying being pregnant.
Movement: I feel big waves of movement (maybe somersaults?) and kicks on and off all day.. I love it!
Food cravings: Thai food, until I had it last night and it just wasn’t the same…blech
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing lately! Woohoo!
Have you started to show yet: Yes - had the first stranger ask me when my baby is due this week!
Gender: Still thinking a girl
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On most of the time
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Feeling the baby move on the outside so daddy can finally feel it... Also, we bought a new couch and recliner over the weekend. Derek and I have been eying it for months and we finally took the plunge.  We need something comfortable for when the baby arrives. On Saturday we are picking up full bedroom set from my friend who is moving.  It’s a beautiful bedroom set for just $400!! I’m SO excited about having new furniture.

16 Weeks

Here’s what Baby Amundson is up to this week (source): “Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he’s about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too… He’s even started growing toenails. And there’s a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.”

I still can't believe I'm 16 weeks! I really don't feel prepared, which is okay, I have plenty of time. The only purchase I've made was a diaper bag. My sweet mom 'bought' us our crib. I saw 'bought' because she gave me the money to buy it, which I haven't done yet. We still need to clean out our spare bedroom and do all the fun stuff to turn it into a nursery. I keep saying I will start purchasing everything once I find out the sex.

The past two weeks have been VERY stressful for me. My co-worker and good friend took another position. This means I had to learn her job over the course of one week. Now I'm holding down the fort while trying to recruit another HR Generalist. I can't do this for long, so I just hope we find someone good ASAP.

How far along?16 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 9 pounds gained – I was  SHOCKED that I’ve gained 9 pounds when I stepped on the scale.  I’ve been working out 4-5 days per week and eating well for the most part.  I guess I need to calm down on the Girl Scout cookies.
Maternity clothes? I’m still fitting into some of my regular jeans. I love my maternity jeans and slacks.  Also, a few shirts my sister bought for me.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Sleeping great, minus waking up to pee every night at 3 am.
Best moment this week: Having friends at the gym notice my belly and wanting to touch it.  I really don’t mind people touching my belly.
Miss Anything? Actually enjoying pizza…the thought of pizza still makes me sick. I gave it a shot on Tuesday night and could barely stomach a slice. I LOVED pizza pre-pregnancy.
Movement: Feeling it just a little each day!
Food cravings: Girl Scout Cookies... guessing all the sugar is contributing to my weight gain more than the growing babe in my belly... what you're not supposed to eat an entire sleeve of thin mints for dessert?
Anything making you queasy or sick: Coffee.. what a shame.. I can't wait to enjoy it again.
Have you started to show yet: I think I have a good bump going. I’m shocked that some people I work with have no idea I’m pregnant when I tell them.  Do they just think I’m working on a big beer belly?
Gender prediction: Girl for sure! I have had so many dreams recently having a baby girl who looks just like me when I was a baby... weird but I always wake up so happy!
Labor Signs: No (I will flip when I finally say yes to this question.. so nervous!!)
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Feeling more movement & finally being able to do some shopping!
I will post a better picture later! :)
